Mixed Media Monday 'It's not all black and white'

This week really took me out of my comfort zone, I love colour so to create a piece where I have to restrict myself was hard work but I managed to incorporate quite a few colours into it in the end :0)

I used a canvas board then glued some scrap booking papers to it and painted over them in white so that you couldn't really see the colours but still the shapes. I just used black and white acrylic paint and painted over some of the scrap booking designs. I also used some black and white print for the newspaper for the trees in the back ground. I quite enjoyed creating this piece as it's quite different from my usual pieces.

Hi Friend!
This is wonderful - I love the idea of a rainbow - so clever! Love the text trees too. Have fun with the boys today; I hope you enjoy the holiday. Please just send the painting when you can - no worries. I am happy to get it when you have a moment! Kristin xo

Nicola - you achieved a wonderful effect - especially for someone who loves colour so much. I love the way the little boy is colouring his world - I am sure he will be living in a very bright and colourful world very soon :-) Diane

Thanks for your nice comment on my snow games post Nicola! I get the effects I do by using lots and lots of layers and blending - very tedious!

Good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone - that is so hard for lots of us, including me. I think you acheived a wonderful result! I love the splashes of color and the newsprint adds a lot of demention to this sweet boy - nicely done!

Hi to a fellow Aussie!! It seems to me we are very thin on the ground on the blogs.
Your painting is superb. I love the idea of showing the young artist at work.
Your blog is full of goodies that I have thoroughly enjoyed browsing through it.
