Sunday Sketch and a very sad week......

Hi guys, well I guess wherever you are in the world you've probably heard about the floods in Queensland Australia. Actually it's now happening in 3 States that I know of, Queensland, NSW and South Australia, but basically up the Eastern side of Australia we've all had sooooo much rain.

Luckily for my family and I we aren't suffering from the floods but I feel so sad for the families who have been affected some of which have lost family members, it's so devastating. We are starting to hear stories about people that were hit by flash floods and they are so sad. The other morning I heard about a 13 year old boy who told rescuers to take his little 10 year old brother first. Unfortunetly when they tried to get the other boy he was swept away as it was too late for him. What a brave little man. Soooo so sad that story has stuck with me since. There are so many sad stories just like that I think that one affected me so much in particular because I have two boys of my own and the thought of that happening to them is too much to bear.

We will be donating to one of many charities over here that are helping the people affected by these terrible floods some of which are now homeless.

So this is the reason for my sad piece this week. I didn't intend to sit down and draw this paticular piece but it was just busting to come out. I haven't even thought of a name for it yet, any ideas?

Sorry for the sad post but it has been a very awful week for Australia and it's hard not to think about it. I'm very thankful that we have our loved ones safe and sound.

On a lighter note I've been very busy with more fimo pendants so thought I would include some in this post to brighten it up a bit. Hope you're all well and safe.
I'm loving these vintage settings and I'm so addicted to fimo!

 I called this one 'Union'
 'Zebra Print'
 'Tiger Tear'

All these are now available in my etsy shop.
This last photo I took yesterday morning, after what felt like forever we woke up to a beautiful morning yesterday. I love these roses! :0)

I do love your new artwork though. It does show a lot of sadness but it is still beautiful.

The floods are foremost in kiwis minds - especially the brave wee boy who gave his life for his brother. What a hero! So glad you are ok. :)

What a profound sketch. I have friends in Brisbane, and it is so sad what is happening there at the moment. Your story of the child saving his brother is heart wrenching.

I hope everyone you know is safe.

Hey Nic - i feel your sadness but am very grateful that our family is not in danger from the flooding. Tony and I will be donating too - wish there was more we could do. Your painting reaches straight to the heart.

Love the new fimo pendants. I think these are your best so far.

It hasn't been a great week for Australia. Here in South Australia, we got the dregs of the big rain front that caused all the hassle, but it was drizzle by then. But the nation is in pain and the stories are heartbreaking.

Your sketch is a nice composition illustrating that exact feeling of pain. Thanks for sharing.

What a tragic story of the boy, it brought tears to my eyes. I have been following the stories of the flooding and it is heart wrenching, I follow several blogger in Australia and so far I know most of them are okay. This is awful following so closely on the fires from not so long ago.

Your sketch is wonderful and full of emotion, well done. The pendants are beautiful. I tried fimo and could not get it to do what I envisioned for it, guess I am not a sculptor.

your story about the 2 young boys brought tears to my eyes, and your sketch came from the heart this week. Prayers for your country.

Your painting is such a beautiful way of getting your emotions out on paper, no words are needed...

'm so saddened by what's happening in Australia too. I've known many Australians over the years, in real life, and through blogging, and they are truly wonderful, big hearted people. So many disasters are happening these days, I pray for the people to stay safe.
So happy your family is ok

We are seeing all kinds of news reports here about the flooding, including the story of the two young boys and their mother, I believe she was also swept away when the little hero was.

Your picture is fantastic, your rain looks like tears.

I agree, the devastation of the floods is so sad.
Maybe the title can be; flooded with sadness. Your piece beautifully expresses what you have shared here. it is good to talk about what is going on, it inspires us to help, thank you. sending light to your country.

It is so heartbreaking indeed. What might have often been prayed for (rain) has turned out to be so horrible.

Nicola your piece is fabulous - so very touching. You should sent it to one of the charities and see if they want to use the image. "Donate" it to the cause in a way. It so beautifully captures the mood of the disaster.

We are so glad to hear that you and your loved ones are not directly affected. And it is so great that humans can reach out to each other in times of need. Our prayers are with you all. The picture reflects your great grief and thus your capacity for love and caring. Blessings to you all and those around you affected. As forbyour painting my son suggests "Floating Tears". From the broken heart comes the strength of human hope. xxxx

I heard about that little boy and my heart broke for him and his family. We have family in Queensland but they are higher up so they are not affected by the flood directly. Still we worry about them every day. Beautiful piece and for a beautiful cause.
