Sunday Sketch - First sketch of my new commission

Hi guys well this week I've been working on a sketch for my new commission. I have been asked to do 3 portraits of a lady's children. She has two girls and a boy and both girls have asked to be mermaids, so I decided to paint 3 seperate paintings but when they are put together make one picture. This is the first one that I am working on. I'm thinking of making it a mixed media piece and painting the face on paper then sticking it to the canvas as I feel like I could get a more accurate likeness rather than painting it straight on to the canvas. I'm going to do many more sketches of this in preparation and won't start the actual painting til I come back from my trip as I think once I start I will probabaly want to finish all 3 relatively close together. Anyway here is my sketch. If you would like to see more Sunday sketches click on the tab at the side of my page and you will be able to see work from many more artists!

Wow Nicola,

I love her! You have done a great job with her face and I love the fact that she wanted to be a mermaid...perhaps I should try something like this for my kids!

Smiles!

Wow Nicola what a task! I've done portraits before and slavishly copied photos because that's what the lady wanted but this is going to be gorgeous! Mermaids are one of my favourite things so I look forward to seeing your progress. The sketches are lovely :) xx

She is beautiful, It is so wonderful that the girls chose to be mermaids and that their mother agreed. I love to know that kids still have such great imagination and it will be a treasure for them their whole lives.

Just adorable! I do my faces on paper also then put on canvas, so much easier to get more realistic faces. How fun for you. Go girl Go!

What a fun project! Love that they picked to be mermaids gives a lot of room for creativity. I love the start! Looking forward seeing the progress!

Thank you for a visit! It was great to see a friendly familiar face! I had a rough couple of months, and it is nice to get back to "normal"
