Merry Christmas to all my blog friends!!

Well I decided I wanted to paint something Christmassy. I couldn't bring myself to paint a snow filled picture when we've been sitting in 36c heat! I'll never quite get used to these hot Christmases even though I've been living here over half my life now. In Wales it was freezing at Christmas and every now and then we'd even be lucky enough to have a white Christmas. So I decided to think about what Christmas means to me and straight away knew that its about the kids. Having two little boys really does put the magic back into Christmas as you see it through their eyes. It reminds me how exciting and magical this time of year was when I was a child and I love it. Seeing their faces light up when we put up the tree and the lights. Taking them to
Christmas carols in the park the other night holding candles in the dark. I really enjoy this time of year. So this piece is inspired by all those things.
I'm not sure abou this canvas though. Do you ever have times when you're working on something and it doesn't feel quite right? I kept tweaking it here and there but in the end decided it was finished. It's weird as to me it doesn't look like I painted it but I thought I'd post it anyway as I think I like it, heheheh I'm my own worst critic.

I know what you mean about the hot weather we have here in Australia at Christmas time.....it can make it difficult to get into the Christmas spirit. Cold cuts and salads are more common than the traditional turkey or roast dinners with all the fixings.....anything to try and stay cool. Sadly, I feel like Christmas has become way too commercialised nowadays but I too feel it's still a magical time of year for the kids.

I like your Christmas painting! I always say I'm going to do Christmas painting but, as the time rolls near, things get way too busy and I can never find the time. :(

It's so pretty, Nicola! It really does bring out the essence of Christmas! It brought a tear to my eye! It's really cold around here! It's warmed up a bit (-9C) but it was down to nearly -50C!!! BRRRRRR!!!! Enjoy being warm! Merry Christmas from Wintry Canada!!

I think your painting shows the spirit of Christmas beautifully! It is about innocence, and magic, and joy in the faces of children.

I can't imagine having Christmas without any snow, but once in my life I would like to spend it somewhere hot so I can see what it is like for the other part of the world.
(I knew where Deedra was from as soon as I read her -50 degree C comment, lol!)

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Hi Nicola,
Love your painting. And yes, I have been there. Although it's been months since I've even picked up a paint brush! Ugh! I SO need to find my heart and dive back into my art. Alot of health issues again lately, and life...my heart has been heavy.
Anyway, I always love your art. Such joy and warmth behind each piece. Hugs!

Hi Nicola!
I love the round cheeks on your little girl. Such an adorable painting!! Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog, I'll post the illustration as soon as Giovanna finishes it! How fun it was to have a photo shoot and feel pretty and girly. Hubby enjoyed it too! Today I'm still in my bathrobe, cramping and hot flashing! lol. What a difference a day makes!!
Hugs,
