Well I was really pleased when i saw the theme for this week as I have been working on a piece that I thought fit perfectly. I have had a request for a pendant with a Geisha girl so I came up with this idea. It is painted on packing wood which according to my husband is called MDF. He has a heap of these left over from when he was on an organised trail bike ride recently and they needed some signs. Apparently kitchens are packed in them and I guess they get left over. I found them a great surface to paint on as it was very smooth and flat which meant I could use a lot of different materials. I used my acrylic paints, water soluble ink pencils, texture paste on the the hair decorations as well as my iridescant paints on her kimono which I'm sure hasn't shown up so well in the photo but it really made the kimono look like it was made of silk material.
I had lots of fun with this one and look forward to making it into a pendant!

WOW! Beautiful face and I love the eyes.
Your painting looks great!
I'm afraid I have no idea what is causing that image problem - most mysterious! It sort of looks like she's hiding under a screen! She is really lovely, and I agree with NatashaMay - those eyes really draw you in!
I love this painting, you are creating some beautiful girls. Love her eyes also.
Your on a roll!
All the best with your pendants, they looks awesome!
Have an awesome day!

This painting is so beautiful and sweet.
:)
Beautiful piece, great painting.
I've been having similar problems in that occasionally a smaller version of the image will be superimposed over a corner of the image. I share your frustration!
This piece is such a lovely Asian piece. I really like it.
Hi Nicola, I had a lot of fun doing a geisha picture too! Yours is gorgeous! MDF is a nice surface to paint on. Some of my larger paintings were on MDF and when they were finished I used to attach 2ins x 1 inch pieces of wood on the back to hang then up without a frame. (I'm very much into not spending extra money on things like that!) ;)xx
This is a wonderful illustration. The colors are vibrant, and the geisha's eyes and mouth are very expressive.
Oh, this is beautiful Nicola! The pink in her eyes really adds so much! YOu do such great detail in your illustrations!!
Hi Nicola! WOW! You always inspire me. She is just gorgeous!! I love it. I think she'll make amazing pendants. You must let me know when they're available. And as for the uploading problem...I wonder if it has to do with the size of the image you're trying to upload? I know that if you save your .jpegs to 72dpi saved for the web, it keeps the file size down. I haven't had that same problem, but hope this might help a bit. How frustrating! And thank you for your kind words, I am fine, a bit sad for a few minutes, but then realized that there is a LOT more to work on out there. I am happily just working more on my painting, a new website (just for illustration) and so on. I will keep you posted. Thanks Nicola..you are a gem!
Really a fantastic face.
Oh she's lovely! I don't know why blogger is loading like that ? hopefully someone will know!
Thanks for sweet comments! Yes good luck flying to UK, I think I got 2 hours sleep in 26 hrs!
