Flower lady

This is just an idea that I had that I'm thinking of turning into a canvas. I quite like it. Spring is definitly in the air over here now thank goodness and I'm getting inspired by the little blossoms I've started to see appear around town. I can't wait for the longer warmer days and lots of playing outside with the kids!!

'Longing for Summer'

Still stuck in the thick of winter I day dreamed today whilst in front of the tele on a day off from the kids. Rhys is in school and Riley went to day care today. He goes once a week as I feel he needs that interaction with other kids and to be used to being away from me for a while. He's 3 in about 2 months so is getting bigger. I feel sad when I leave him there but he has a great time once I'm gone. Normally I end up cleaning and catching up on stuff around the house. But today I made sure that I knuckled down and did some art.

This was a page in my diary which I had stuck some textured paper onto and painted over it. I did that last week and didn't really know what I was going to do with it then I did this doodle in front of the tele whilst catching up on episodes of 'The Dollhouse' ( I love Joss Whedon). Perhaps that's what inspired this lady. Either way it was very relaxing. Now I'm off to pick up the children. Happy Friday!!!

I'm in love!!!!

With these new paints I found today. I went to the art store in search of inspiration and found these great paints. I'm sure everyone else has heard of them except for me but I'm glad I found them today. They are iridescent paints.

I also bought some canvas boards to have a play with and I'm working on a painting right now using a combination of my acrylics and the iridesccent paints. I love the sparkly colours. I've been feeling like my paintings are lacking something lately and perhaps this will give them the pick me up that I need. I shall post my new painting as soon as it's finished in the mean time this is a little painting/doodle that I did on my black paper. I thought they would come up lovely on black and I like the result.

Looking to the future....

After a long strange and stressful past month, I felt like painting something positive to put me into a new frame of mind. This started out like a bit of a doodle on canvas but I'm quite pleased with it. I tried mixing some oil pastels in there too with the acrylics and it was quite enjoyable.

Anyway here it is.......

'Layla'

Well this picture started off as a doodle in front of the tele, I find it very relaxing just drawing on the couch sometimes. I decided to colour it with coloured pencil and it was quite a nice change to use a different medium.

I called her 'Layla' as I think that is a pretty name and it suited her. When I was pregnant with my second, 'Riley' he was going to end up being 'Layla' had he been a girl........ I think I'll be doing more with this character!

'My lucky charms'

This weeks theme for Daily Art stop 'Challenge Wednesday' was 'My lucky Charm'. Well I guess my lucky charms are my two boys, they are completely crazy and into everything at times and they can drive me mad but I wouldn't have it any other way. They inspire me every day to push myself further and they have both reintroduced me to the world of childrens books and have reminded me just how much fun it is to be a child. Seeing life through their eyes puts a completely different spin on things. I'm very lucky to have them.

Mermaid

This is a quick pencil drawing I did of a mermaid. I seem to have found my feet with drawing my characters that are 'people'. I struggled for a while with them as they seemed to come out looking a bit posessed. But I realised that that I needed to simplify it a little and found it alot easier.
I think I'll try to do a painting of her this week as I can see her with a beautiful blue green tail........

A doodle.....perhaps a Cyclops?

Well the last couple of days I haven't been able to get as stuck into my art as I would have liked. Some days the kids just won't play along. Yesterday I took my youngest (who is 2) for a picnic in the morning which was lovely and hoped he would let me have a bit of a drawing session at rest time in the afternoon.
I managed to do a bit of a doodle but it was hard going with many interruptions, it messes with your creative flow. But I guess I'm going to have to get used to doing things 'under pressure' as I would never get anything done. So yesterday I just decided to do a 'doodle' I started in pencil then went over it in pen and ink. I was thinking of adding water colour later but I got interrupted and this is how it finished up.
I can't seem to stop drawing dragonflies now. I like the texture in her hair but her eye seems a little odd. I've decided that I have created a beautiful cyclops from a mythical land (not that I couldn't get the eye right). It's not my most favourite picture but I wanted to post it anyway as I think every exercise or doodle is important. The purpose of this one was to loosen me up and just let my imagination run........I quite enjoyed it!

Autumn

I'm really looking forward to Autumn. It's my most favourite time of the year. I love the change in the colours in the trees.
Here is a doodle that I did in anticipation of Autumn.
I started in just pencil and ink then painted it in watercolour. I was trying to get some movement and energy into this picture.....
